The second part is about social interactions as well as learning how to make the most of what your teacher can offer. If you want to be successful in school, you have to be able to make positive connections with others. These should be with both other students and the staff.
The main step is the most straight forward, and possibly the easiest. Do not, under most circumstances, be mean when it is uncalled for. If it's all in good humor with some other people, then it's fine so long as you don't go too far. People do not generally take harassment and obnoxiousness very kindly.
The second step is all about taking advantage of what you now have. Learn as much as you can about your friends and teachers. People love to talk about themselves, and they'll often go overboard. Even in these cases, just smile and take it all in. Be helpful when it comes to others, and people will act similarly to you. There are two distinct benefits for having the favor of your friends and teachers.
1. Friends will be more willing to do favors back for you. It can range from rides to and from school, advice on what they know, and even a place to hang out at if you don't want to go back home immediately.
2. Teachers will be more inclined to let you off on minor misconduct and possibly be more willing to offer extra credit options if needed. In more extreme cases, they can even end up giving you credit even if you're wrong.
Obviously, none of these steps are processes are foolproof for every person. Strategies must change when interacting with different people, but while a person can be intelligent, people overall are ignorant. Take all of this with a grain of salt though, it can definitely take its toll after awhile. While having friends with other students and teachers is a good thing, never forget to be yourself in the end.
